Changes That Heal

Question:

I have struggles for years with depression and anxiety. I feel angry and guilty most of the time. I'm tired of feeling this way. What can I do to change? Is change possible?

Answer:

Yes, there are solutions for your struggle with painful emotions. These solutions lie in understanding certain basic developmental tasks and in acknowledging that you, like the rest of us, failed to complete these tasks when you were growing up. Completing these tasks now will mean changes that heal. Four developmental tasks fundamental to healing are (1) bonding to others; (2) setting boundaries; (3) sorting out the good and the bad, and (4) becoming an adult. Change does not come easily. Freeing yourself from deep seated patterns of feelings and behaviors doesn't happen over night.
